Amongst Our Weapons, Ben Aaronovitch

Urban Fantasy: Amongst Our Weapons, Rivers of London Book 9, Ben Aaronovitch

Beneath the streets of London is a highly secured, highly monitored silver exchange. Cameras everywhere, steel doors and powerful locks, nobody gets in or out without being seen, challenged, stopped, or filmed. Until a silversmith is murdered, with no camera capturing the crime, no person remembering what happened, and no locked door barring entrance or exit.

When the impossible happens, London police turn to the Special Assessment Unit and their talented detective, Peter Grant. Peter’s job is to find the unfindable, explain the inexplicable, and in general put an end to supernatural shenanigans that might disrupt the regular lives of otherwise oblivious Londoners.

This crime, though, puts everything to the test. Their one-time colleague and now bitter nemesis, Lesley, reaches out to let them know that this crime is from something she herself is very concerned about. And Peter is on the clock: he needs to solve the crime before his partner, Beverly, gives birth to the twins they are expecting. When your partner is a river goddess, you had best be present and attentive when she is giving birth to your children.

Ben Aaronovitch just keeps getting better and better. Peter Grant is a character that continues to grow, from the clueless novice of the first book to a seasoned pro maturing into a fine detective, from the single bachelor to a settled family. Rivers of London is a fun urban fantasy series that manages to show the amazing city from multiple angles, and also brings in a fun and diverse supernatural community that sometimes has its own agenda.
