Celebrating National Poetry Month: Mushrooms, David Marvin

mushrooms, David Marvin

Mushrooms

Not plant, not animal,

These fungal beings grow

In shady spots ill-suited to grass,

On trees rotting in the woods

On bark open to infection

In grass too wet to thrive.

Popping overnight from spores unseen

And unseeable they thrive.
